Comag Matamata Swifts have saved their largest victory of the season for their penultimate match, beating West Hamilton United 5-1 in Hamilton on Saturday.

It has been something of a grind for the Swifts this season, with their lack of proficiency in front of goal often leading to results slipping after promising performances. But there were no such issues this time out.

Chris Lee’s second goal of the season gave the Swifts a slender half time lead, but it soon stretched out to three by the hour mark. Young wide player, Adam Harris, hit his first goal for the team ten minutes after the break then half time substitute, Steph Turnbull put the result out of sight only a few minutes later.

There was brief respite for West Hamilton when they reduced the deficit from the penalty spot midway through the half, but Harris was in on the act again soon after to stretch the margin back to three.

Turnbull fired home with five minutes remaining to complete an excellent afternoon’s work for the Swifts.

With a number of regular players missing, through injury and suspension, this was both a promising performance and result for the club as the 2020 campaign enters its death throes.

The Swifts have one final game remaining this coming weekend when they venture over the Kaimais to play Tauranga City.
