Matamata Swifts 0-3 Old Blues

The Swifts have sunk to their sixth league loss on the trot after drawing another blank, this time against Old Blues.

Much of the damage was done early on when some sleepy defending allowed the visitors in for two chances they couldn’t really miss, making the score 2-0 inside 15 minutes. It was a horror start and close to a coach killer, undoing all the work that had gone into the preparation for the match.

Matamata competed well for most of the rest of the match, hitting the upright during the first half and carving out a couple of dead set chances in the second half. Unfortunately neither Callum Bar nor Ignacio Trias could hit the target when through on the keeper.

Old Blues got their insurance goal as the match entered its closing phase when one of their strikers nipped in to finish with a neat header.

Once again individual errors and spells of inconsistency within the match proved costly for the Swifts. A more focused approach and better decision making, coupled with players taking responsibility for their own and the team’s performance, are needed if the Swifts hope to snap what is becoming an alarming losing run.
