With the FIFA U-20 World Cup done and dusted our fixture schedule is back to normal, with all our teams in action over the weekend.
The Waikato Stud Matamata Swifts head to Karapiro neighbours, and WaiBOP Premiership table toppers, Cambridge on Saturday. The Swifts were handed a heavy defeat by Cambridge the opening day of the season so getting something back second time around will be high on the priority list. But Cambridge aren’t the championship favourites for no reason, and currently sit seven points clear at the top. The match kicks off at 2.45pm on Saturday at John Kerkhof Park in Cambridge.
Our Richardson Racing Stables Swifts Reserves play Cambridge reserves in the WaiBOP Championship in a match that curtain raises for the Premiership fixture. The two sides shared the points in an opening day goalless draw, one of the reserves’ four draws from eight games so far this season. Our young reserves have acquitted themselves well in their first season back at Championship level and this match, against the side with the best defensive record in the league, will be a good test of their progress. The match kicks off at 12.30pm on Saturday at John Kerkhof Park in Cambridge.
Challenge Matamata Swifts Ladies play their final home game of the first phase of the Waikato Ladies Division B/C season on Sunday when they host Hamilton North. The ladies have adapted well to life at a higher level this season, sitting in second and having lost only once all season. Their victory over Cambridge last weekend was a great measure of how the side has grown during 2015. Hamilton North should prove to be a tricky assignment, however, as they currently sit in fourth on the table so the ladies will need to be on their game. The match kicks off at 11am on Sunday at the Domain.
All our Junior 8th to Open Grade sides are back on the field again this Saturday morning, with a roughly 50/50 split between home and away games. Click here to find out where and when all our sides are playing.
This Saturday our Mini-Kickers group, for children aged 4 to 7, has their final session of term 2 before breaking for the July school holidays. They’ll be back at the start of term 3.
