With term 3 now underway, this weekend sees all our teams in action.
Waikato Stud Matamata Swifts continue their WaiBOP Premiership campaign with a trip over the Kaimai’s on Saturday to play Tauranga-based Old Blues. The Swifts sit just three points behind Old Blues, so a win would leave the sides level on Saturday evening. Like Matamata, Old Blues have been inconsistent this season, so it’s difficult to predict a winner. The match kicks of at 2.45pm at Wharepai Domain in Tauranga.
Our Richardson Racing Stables Swifts Reserves head in the opposite direction. They face a monumental task at new WaiBOP Championship favourites, West Hamilton United. The reserves will enter the match with confidence after two home victories in a row, but Saturday will be a step up against one of the league’s form teams. As always, it will be a great test for what is the club’s development side. The match kicks off at 2.45pm at Weka Street in Hamilton.
The Challenge Matamata Swifts Ladies are at home on Sunday in the first round of the Waikato Cup. The visitors, Cambridge Red, have already tasted defeat at the Domain this season, going down 2-0 in the league clash just over a month ago, but we won’t be taking them lightly. The two teams are fighting for second spot in Waikato Division B so local fans can expect a fiercely contested cup tie. The match kicks off at 11am at the Domain.
All our 8th to Open Grade Junior teams hit the field again after a break for the school holidays. This Saturday is the final round of preliminary games, so results are crucial ahead of the championship leagues being drawn early next week. There is a roughly 50:50 split of home and away games for our teams. Click here to find out where your favourite team is playing.
The club’s Mini-Kickers programme, for 4th to 7th Grade players, also resumes on Saturday. The session runs from 9am to 10am at the Domain. Click here for more information.
