The Challenge Matamata Swifts Ladies made hard work of putting away this week’s visitors, Cambridge, but they still ended up walking away with another important three points.
A goal in each half was enough and, while Cambridge scored late on to set up a tense finish, the Swifts Ladies will be ruing their wayward finishing, along with a superb performance from the visiting keeper.
The Swifts had chance after chance in both halves, while keeper Ana Paterson barely touched the ball. Hailey Maddren put Matamata ahead in the first half, then she doubled the lead after the break after a rather ironic keeping error.
The visitors scored from distance with only a few minutes remaining but Matamata saw the game out and kept their run going at the top of the league.
