Our three senior teams began their 2014 seasons with a full house – a win, a draw and a loss.

The Stanley Joinery Swifts conceded an 89th minute goal at Tauranga Boys College FC to fall to a 2-1 defeat in a match they had enough chances to win. The only Swifts goal was a TBC own goal to have the game level at the break but Matamata couldn’t find a second and ended up paying the ultimate price against a young side that had a little outside assistance along the way. Report here.

In the other Saturday match, the Swifts Reserves opened their Waikato Division A campaign with a 5-5 draw against Eastern City in Hamilton. The reserves’ goals were spread around with one each to Marcelo Marquez, Scott Hudson, Jamie Cox, Ronan Costello and Joe Gifford. Report here.

On Sunday the Challenge Swifts Ladies got their season off to a flyer with a 3-0 win at the Domain over Mangakino United. Sarah Coppard struck twice and was joined on the score sheet by Annemieke Verstraten. Report here.

Next weekend sees all three teams at home in what should be a big weekend. The Federation 1 side host Melville (2.45), the Waikato A side take on Huntly (12.30) while on Sunday the Ladies face Eastern Suburbs (11.00). Hope to see you all down there!
