Recap

Stanley Joinery Matamata Swifts have had a fifth consecutive victory snatched from their grasp after Otumoetai levelled the scores with virtually the last kick of the game at a bleak Matamata Domain.

In a dour encounter the Swifts had most of the play along with the better chances to score but were thwarted by a green wall until the dying minutes of the game. It was a frustrating afternoon as the Swifts looked the more constructive of the two sides on show but struggled with their execution.

Just as the match looked destined to finish as a predictable goalless stalemate, the Swifts were awarded a penalty. Bjorn Vossen stepped up to convert, giving the Swifts what should have been a well merited victory. In the aftermath of the goal Otumoetai had their goalie sent from the field.

Otumoetai pumped the ball long from the re-start and pushed on looking for their equaliser. After a couple of snatched half clearances from Swifts defenders the ball fell to an Otumoetai player just inside the area and he drilled an unstoppable shot into the roof of Jordan Wise’s net. It was their first shot of the day.

Matamata kicked-off again then immediately heard the final whistle.
