Recap

The Stanley Joinery Matamata Swifts returned from Taupo with a point after the second draw of the season between these two sides.

It was great to have a gathering of supporters travel down to watch the game. Matamata played some tidy football during the 1st half, without really threatening enough to suggest a goal. That penetrating pass and a will to strike on goal deserted the team.

The Swifts conceded a goal due to switching off at a free kick. It was the sort of mistake teams cannot make at any level of football and we paid the price. After a few words of encouragement at half time and reminding players of their roles and tasks the team produced a far better 2nd half display.

Lawrence Clothier scored a very nice goal to level the game and the Swifts played with pace and intent and could have picked up 3 points.

A special mention goes to Bjorn Vossen who crawled off his sick bed to play the full game and Sam Masterton who put in a very busy display in midfield. He continues to grow in that role.
