It was an eventful weekend for the club’s senior, with an eight goal thriller playing out at the Domain and ending with two of our sides sitting top of their leagues.

The Stanley Joinery Matamata Swifts wait for a win goes on after they were held to a 4-4 draw at the Domain by Waikato Unicol. It was an immensely entertaining match, but would have been equally frustrating for the coaching staff as they should have picked up all three points. Click here for the report.

The Swifts Reserves were on the road yet again, but returned from Galloway Park with a vital three points in the bank after a 2-0 win over Claudelands Rovers reserves. Matt Monteith and Ronan Costello scored the goals that moved the reserves to the top of Waikato Division A. In what is an incredibly close league, however, only two points separate the reserves from Melville in sixth, so there’s still a lot more work to do.

It’s looking altogether more comfortable for the Challenge Matamata Swifts Ladies, however. Their 3-1 win at Mangakino stretched their lead at the top of Waikato Ladies Division C to five points after Melville lost to Te Awamutu. Annemieke Verstraten scored twice and was joined on the score sheet by Morgan Norris.

An out of sorts Matamata Sportsworld Under-17s were defeated 6-1 at home by Tauranga City United. Ignacio Trias scored Matamata’s consolation goal from the spot, but it wasn’t ever going to be enough after loose defending made it far too easy for the visitors to score.
