The weather impacted on football again last weekend and this time it was the senior men’s WaiBOP Premiership and WaiBOP Championship teams that suffered. Waikato Stud Matamata Swifts and Richardson Racing Stables Swifts Reserves had last Saturday’s matches postponed due to a gluggy Domain pitch. The matches, against Melville United and Whakatane Town, will be played later in the season. Challenge Matamata Swifts Ladies’ match in Hamilton on Sunday, however, went ahead.

Waikato Unicol 0-5 Challenge Matamata Swifts Ladies
Waikato Division B – top 6

Challenge Matamata Swifts Ladies carried over their fine cup form to the end of season top 6 competition with a dominating victory over Waikato Unicol.

The ladies smashed home four first half goals to effectively seal their result by the break. Kerrie Cox and Krystal Morrison scored a goal apiece, while Sommer Rickard lashed home two fine strikes from distance to give the team fine reward for a strong and energetic first 45 minutes.

Goalkeeper Ana Paterson had a comfortable ride at the back as the Matamata defence dealt with everything that came their way.

The second half was far more sedate, with the game already won. Morrison capped of an excellent display with her second goal of the afternoon to push the victory margin out to five, while the team continued to manage all their opponents could throw at them.

This was yet another impressive performance from a side that continues to improve. They get to cool their heels this coming Sunday before looking forward to another trip to Hamilton to play Division B’s form side, Hamilton Wanderers.
