The Richardson Racing Stables Swifts reserves have drawn 4-4 with Old Blues reserves in their final away game of the 2016 season.
In a match with very much an end of season feel, the reserves conceded first but hit back thanks to goals from Reuben Wigelsworth and Logan Raynel to lead at the break. The teams continued to trade goals in the second half and when the reserves got their noses in front with only minutes remaining, thanks to goals from Koto Higashionna and Raynel again they looked like pulling off a deserved victory. But their hosts spoiled the party with a late equaliser.
The Swifts A team’s home game against Melville United also contained eight goals, but unfortunately it was the visitors who game out on top with a 6-2 victory. Kyle van Waveren, normally a centre half or keeper, struck a goal in each half for the A team but the visitors revelled in the extra space afforded by Matamata to knock in three goals either side of the break. With the A team drawing their positions out of a hat prior to kick off this was always likely.
On Sunday, the Challenge Matamata Swifts Ladies lost 3-1 at Huntly Thistle. Patrice Adamson scored from penalty spot for Matamata and, while the team created plenty of chances, it was a day in which the ball just wouldn’t hit the back of the net for the visitors in a game they could have taken more from.
