It is with deep regret that we notify you of the loss our dear friend, Dave Mann. Our sincere condolences go out to Dave’s family.

Dave arrived in Matamata in 1986 and was a fixture at Matamata Swifts AFC ever since. Our far from perfect records show he made 20 Northern League appearances for the first team. He made countless other appearances for whichever team needed him on any given weekend.

Early on, Dave earned the nickname Liberace, following a particularly rowdy away trip. This was soon shortened to the far more familiar, now legendary, Libby.

But Dave’s contribution to Matamata Swifts was far more than playing a few games. He was the club’s Treasurer for more than 25 years. He ran the bar for years, becoming famous for his ‘member’s deals.’ He was an administrator. A referee. A linesman. A travelling companion. A fan. A mate.

Simply, he was Libby.

Such a gentleman right to the end, Dave will leave a gaping hole right at the heart of the Swifts family. Libby, you’ll be missed more than any of us will ever realise.

The celebration of Dave’s life will be held at the Baptist Church, Matamata on Thursday September 29 from 1pm.

As a Club we will also be forming a Guard of Honour for Libby. If we all dress in attire featuring our club’s logo we can make this a very special and memorable time for us and Dave’s family.
