The Challenge Matamata Swifts Ladies team has won Waikato Ladies Division C after defeating closest challengers, Melville United, at the Domain.
Annemieke Verstraten’s goal midway through the second half proved to be the difference between the two sides, but the Ladies had to rely on a penalty save from Ana Paterson not long after to ensure the win.
The ladies probably made things harder than it needed to be after missing three one on ones and an open goal during an open second half, but Melville always looked dangerous on the counter. The Matamata back four expertly dealt with everything that came their way while Matamata always looked the more likely team to score.
The team won’t be worried about the closeness of the score now as they maintained their unbeaten record and cannot be caught at the top of the table.
